The Millwood Project
The Millwood Project was devised to enable pupils from across the Borough to access facilities here at Millwood School. The aim of the Millwood Project is to model how we create and use our inclusive learning environment for pupils with a wide range of additional educational and physical needs. Millwood Project pupils are placed in a class which has been deemed suitable in order to provide them with stimulating and engaging opportunities for learning, as well as demonstrating and sharing with their supporting staff member a range of strategies, techniques and resources which will be useful on their return to their school.
Due to the high demand for placement on the Millwood Project an application and panel process is in operation. Placements last for 1 term enabling more pupils to access the scheme throughout the school year.
Another key strand of the Millwood Project is the support it provides to educational professionals who support pupils with a range of additional needs in mainstream settings. It provides them with the very useful opportunity of visiting a specialist provision in order to observe and learn from our staff. During these visits they have the chance to observe how we use a range of strategies, techniques and resources in our day to day lessons. Staff are also given the time and opportunity to discuss and reflect what they see with our staff and pupils – and we also enjoy meeting and working with colleagues from mainstream.
